Starting from mechanical waves, students learn first how to describe and recognize a wave from a graph and then how to calculate sound level, combine different sounds and study their propagation focusing on obstacles and damping. The processes and theories are presented through videos, images and PPTs and the students are often asked to interact actively.
At the end of the module they should be able not only to solve exercises but also to measure sounds in different conditions (using a smartphone photometer), read and construct an audiogram and most of all they should be aware of how sound and noise influence our life. As a final task they are asked to work in groups and record noises in an area chosen by them, analysing the different sounds to find possible solutions to lower the noise level. They present their work with a PPT or a Prezi.
